The aim of our PhD Program is to promote innovative topics that are relevant to CARIAD. We cooperate with top universities and bring new research projects to life. Our PhD candidates get the opportunity to create new innovations in their projects for CARIAD and the respective scientific field. All PhD projects are accompanied by a supervisor professor and a dedicated CARIAD mentor. Essential trainings for the PhD candidates complete the PhD Program.
For the department Assisted and Autonomous Driving Functions we are looking for a PhD candidate for the project “Intelligent Scenario Generation for Assisted and Autonomous Driving”. Our department works on the development of state-of-the-art assisted and autonomous driving functions with an end-to-end mentality and responsibility. Our team “Verification, Validation and Data Analytics” deals with enablement, data analytics, automated test case evaluation and deriving decisions from data. As a team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • PhD project with the working title: Intelligent Scenario Generation for Assisted and Autonomous Driving
  • Leverage the power of GenAI to solve complex scenario generation problems, incl. corner cases
  • Conduct research on data driven scenario extraction methods using large language models for driving systems
  • Design an end to end pipeline from scenario extraction to scenario simulation to ensure generated scenarios comply with all the standards
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams in AI research, scenario simulation and validation
  • Developing a method to evaluate scenarios regarding its uniqueness, severity, novelty and criticality measures

WHO YOU ARE

  • Master's degree in a relevant field: Mechatronics, Robotics, Computer Science, etc.
  • Know-How and first hands-on knowledge of applying GenAI in context of scenario generation
  • First experience with LLM APIs (especially Microsoft Azure)
  • Very good programming skills (e.g. Python)
  • A conscientious and independent way of working
  • Fluency in English and good communication skills, German would be a plus
