Volkswagen Group Innovation is the central innovation unit of the Volkswagen Group. Within our department, we shape the mobility of tomorrow, which is increasingly characterized by electromobility. Electric vehicles already have a strong market presence today, and customers are developing expectations, preferences, and usage patterns. As a PhD candidate in the highly relevant field of electromobility, you will have the opportunity to gain in-depth insights into the usage behavior of different electric vehicle customer groups and its impact on vehicle usage, charging infrastructure, and the energy sector. Possible Tasks within this Role
- Leveraging a group‑wide mobility simulation framework and driving its further development using innovative, scientific methods
- Developing and validating digital twins of today’s electric mobility in selected regions as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Deriving realistic market ramp‑up scenarios based on the modeled systems
- Supporting the Group brands and Group strategy with holistic insights into sales potential as well as novel business models emerging from intelligent integration with the energy sector
The final doctoral topic is defined together with the professor. The prerequisite for the cooperation is the confirmation of supervision as well as a confirmed delimitation of topics by the professor of a university or research institution entitled to confer a doctorate.
Qualification requirements
- Good to very good university degree qualifying for doctoral studies in transportation sciences, mathematics, computer science, or a comparable field
- Good programming skills, particularly in Java and Python
- English and German language level B2
- Experience in mobility research or customer studies is an advantage
- High level of independence and commitment
- Strong team spirit and intellectual curiosity
