Brief Role Description

Are you interested in metallic materials science and modern manufacturing technology? Would you like to make your contribution to a resource-saving and ecological mobility of tomorrow? Then our multidisciplinary team at Volkswagen Group Innovation is the right place for you. We conduct research for a sustainable future for all brands in the Volkswagen Group and examine the entire process chain, from material development to recycling. As part of your internship/bachelor thesis/master thesis, you will evaluate new materials for the use in vehicle bodies. You have access to a comprehensive materials laboratory and the opportunity to contribute and deepen your practical skills.

Possible Tasks within this Role

  • Characterize the materials using appropriate testing methods like tensile testing, hardness measurement

  • Perform FEM simulations for the forming processes

  • Evaluate the test results  in collaboration with colleagues from the group

  • Estimate the applicability of new steel materials for automotive application

  • Prepare the results and presenting them in internal meetings

Qualification requirements

  • Students majoring in materials science, surface technology, mechanical engineering or comparable courses

  • Knowledge of materials and materials testing, especially in steels as well as sheet metal forming and FEM Simulation of metal forming processes

  • Good to very good academic performance

  • Quick comprehension/ high commitment /precise and conscientious work and willingness to communicate with colleagues from all disciplines

  • German or English language level B2
