Applications are invited from suitably qualified & experienced candidates to fill the Temporary Occupational Nurse position in the Corporate Health Services - Human Resources (Kariega)

Brief Role Description

The role of the Occupational Health Nurse is to provide a comprehensive primary health care service which is always preventative, curative, promotive, rehabilitative and has an administrative component. To deliver a hostilic health approach and do various monitoring programs / tests, looking after the physical, psychological and social wellbeing of the employee in his work environment.

Possible Tasks within this Role

  • Pre – employment and pre – placement medical examination.
  • Periodic screening and surveillance programs.
  • Exit / Termination medical examinations to establish the state of health of the employee that could have been influenced by the exposure to his work environment.
  • Treatment and follow up of IOD (injury on duty) treatment and assess whether employee is medically fit to resume duties after IOD.
  • Provide treatment services to non – work related illnesses and injuries.
  • Health education in general which includes HIV/AIDS education on a one to one basis
  • Providing Pre – and Post  test counseling  for HIV testing.
  • Administrating includes:

Record keeping

Statics

Sick leave administration

Medicine control

Injury on duty (IOD)

Using Medicine / dressing materials and other equipment in the most cost effective and caring manner without changing the high standard of health care delivered.

 

Qualification requirements

  • Diploma in Nursing Science
  • Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council

Experience needed

Minimum : 2 years relevant experience in nursing

Essentials

  • Good interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to take responsibility and accountability.
  • Good analytical skills
  • High capability to act in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of the nursing process, i.e:
    • Observation
    • Planning
    • Action
    • Evaluation
