PhD Student Thermal Propagation (f/m/d)
Work environment
Technology Development & Simulation at the Center of Excellence (CoE) Battery shapes future battery technologies across all components - from the battery cell and electrical/electronic systems to the complete battery system. In addition, Technology Development consolidates all simulation scopes as well as methodological and pre-development expertise within the CoE Battery. This includes not only the development of technology projects and concepts but also the creation of methodologies for validating cell behavior and stack performance within the battery system. Become part of the team now and help shape Volkswagen's transformation into a mobility provider.
Possible Tasks within this Role
- Design, execute and analyze propagation tests under various clamping conditions in single-cell and multi-cell setups
- Characterize deviations in propagation behavior between single-cell and multi-cell setups and predict multi-cell or stack behavior in relation to the system environment
- Align results of propagation investigations and properties with other integration-relevant topics such as swelling, crash and aging behavior
- Characterize and examine cell interlayer material concepts through material investigations
- Summarize and evaluate potential emergency mechanisms for thermal propagation
The final doctoral topic is defined together with the professor. The prerequisite for the cooperation is the confirmation of supervision as well as a confirmed delimitation of topics by the professor of a university or research institution entitled to confer a doctorate.
Qualification requirements
- Sucessfully completed university degree (good to very good) qualifying for doctoral studies in a scientific field
- Basic knowledge of TP/TR processes in Li-ion battery cells and in scientific method development
- High level of initiative in conducting scientific research
- Analytical and structured thinking
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- German and English language level B2
Keywords
E-mobility, battery cell intgeration, battery development
What we offer
- Attractive salary & 30 vacation days (+ 24.12. and 31.12. off)
- 35-hour week, flexible working hours, remote work
- Special conditions for the purchase and leasing of vehicles
- Free seminars on scientific work and interdisciplinary qualifications
- Participation in the doctoral network for scientific exchange with science representatives and other doctoral candidates within the Volkswagen Group
