Brief Role Description
This position is Career Level 19P, located in Reston, VA, with a Role Classification of Hybrid.
Role Summary
The Workforce Communications Lead leads day-to-day workforce communications and engagement execution for 10,000+ Volkswagen Group of America employees and 20,000+ VW Brand employees across North America. Reporting to the Director of Workforce Communications, this role partners cross-functionally (including HR, IT, Legal/Compliance, Finance, Real Estate, and Corporate Vehicle Services) to translate priorities into clear, timely communications, strengthen connection and culture, and measure effectiveness.
Role Responsibilities
Workforce Communications Strategy & Editorial Operations (60%)

Shape and deliver internal communications and storytelling aligned to enterprise priorities (leadership messages, org updates, manager comms) for 10,000+ U.S. employees and 20,000+ VW Brand employees across North America.

Own the editorial calendar and end-to-end content delivery across core channels (intranet/news site, newsletter, presentations, leadership updates) and supporting tactics (digital signage, posters, talking points), applying Smart Brevity and narrative standards.

Lead stakeholder alignment and the 80+ contributor network; manage communications, creative/production, AV, and event agencies and coach internal clients on tools, templates, and guidelines.
Employee Engagement Events & Activations and Leadership Events (20%)

Plan and execute employee events, town halls, and experiential activations end-to-end (logistics, run-of-show, communications), coordinating partners including Travel/Meetings & Events and Real Estate.

Lead communications for key moments (town halls, ERG programming, HQ/community events, product launches/ride-and-drives), including talk tracks and presentation support; maintain the integrated engagement calendar.

Coordinate across NAR sites (Reston, Chattanooga, Auburn Hills, Bellmont, Canada, Mexico) and enable local leaders to localize activations.
Measurement & Rapid Response (10%)

Monitor and report performance benchmarks (views, comments, sentiment) via dashboards/scorecards and apply insights to improve channel strategy and engagement.

Triage urgent requests and drive timely completion with stakeholders.
QMS Governance (Risk Ambassador Responsibilities) (10%)

Serve as the primary point of contact for risk management topics within the assigned area.

Support leadership and teams in identifying, assessing, and managing risks through QRP and Standard ICS processes, aligned with RMS/ICS Risk Management Policy; facilitate discussions to align across interfacing teams.

Document, assess, and track risks in the ICS or QRP Risk Radar, ensuring timely and accurate updates.

Coordinate Standard ICS Confirmation of Effectiveness evidence, monitor material weaknesses/internal audit findings, and support risk management improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Years of Experience
- 5-7 years of experience in corporate communications, internal communications, public relations, public affairs, community relations, or marketing in an in-house or agency environment
Education Required
- Bachelor’s Degree

Skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills; strong editing and storytelling capability.
- Strategic judgment and critical thinking; able to prioritize in a matrixed environment and advise stakeholders.
- Project management and organizational skills; manages multiple workstreams and deadlines with limited guidance.
- Experience managing agencies/vendors and collaborating across teams to deliver high-quality outputs on time and within budget.
- Audience-centric digital communications mindset; familiarity with modern internal channels and measurement/analytics.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and common project management tools
Required Skills
- Internal content development (writing/editing) and workflow management
- Basic visual communications capability (PowerPoint and simple design tools)
- Evaluation of analytics and engagement metrics to inform improvements
- Support for employee events (communications, presentations, run-of-show, and onsite logistics)
- Coordinate basic photo/video needs (briefs, scheduling, asset collection) as needed
Desired Skills
- Experience with email distribution tools and content management systems
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Knowledge of internal communications best practices and editorial governance
