Applications are invited from suitably qualified & experienced candidates to fill the Rehabilitation Consultant (Biokineticist) position in the Corporate Health Services - Human Resources (Kariega)
Brief Role Description
To apply expertise in biomechanics, human anatomy, and physiology to improve the safety, comfort and performance of automotive products and workplace environments. This function supports cross functional innovation by enhancing ergonomic design and user experience. It also contributes to employee and patient well-being through movement-based strategies that aid rehabilitation, promote health, and optimize physical performance—aligning with the organization's commitment to safety, wellness, and continuous improvement.
Possible Tasks within this Role
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and ergonomists to integrate ergonomic principles into automotive systems and manufacturing environments.
- Evaluate and improve safety standards within manufacturing and assembly settings and implement mitigation strategies to ensure regulatory compliance, reduce workplace injuries, and promote a culture of safety and well-being among employees.
- Advocate for physical activity initiatives tailored to the automotive workforce by designing and implementing movement-based programs and assessments
- Enhance driver performance and comfort through biomechanical insights by applying human movement expertise to inform the design of automotive products
- Provide individualized rehabilitation programs for injury or post-surgical recovery by developing and monitoring exercise regimens that promote safe, progressive restoration of mobility and function to facilitate effective recovery, prevent re-injury, and support patients in regaining independence.
- Analyze physical capabilities and movement patterns of patients by conducting detailed assessments using biomechanical tools and clinical observation.
- Design tailored exercise interventions for individuals with chronic health conditions by creating and supervising tailored programs that address specific physical and health needs.
- Educate patients and families on physical activity and health management by delivering informative sessions and resources on exercise benefits, injury prevention, and self-care strategies.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary healthcare planning and delivery by working alongside physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and medical professionals to create integrated care plans.
- Participate in research projects that evaluate clinical practices and develop innovative technologies like adaptive controls and smart ergonomics to align product development and clinical interventions with the latest evidence
Qualification requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Biomedical Engineering
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
- Certification in ergonomics, rehabilitation, or exercise science is an advantage
Experience
Minimum 2 years as a Biokineticist
Essentials
- Proven experience in human factors engineering and ergonomic design.
- Hands-on expertise in biomechanical testing, including motion capture and force plate analysis.
- Background in clinical biomechanics or exercise physiology, with experience in rehabilitation or performance enhancement.
- Familiarity with occupational health and safety standards and workplace risk assessments.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and biomechanical software
- Cross-Functional Communication skills : Ability to translate biomechanical insights for engineers, designers, clinicians, and HR teams.
- Team Collaboration skills : Experience working in multidisciplinary environments
- Client/Patient Engagement skills: Skilled in building rapport and tailoring interventions to individual goals and needs.
- Problem Solving skills: Strong analytical thinking to identify ergonomic or performance issues and propose effective solutions.
- Project Management skills : Ability to manage timelines, resources, and deliverables across multiple initiatives.
- Research Literacy: Capable of applying evidence-based practices and staying current with scientific advancements.
