ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Quality Engineer to plan, define, coordinate, and take accountability for quality audits and inspections within the Press, Body, Paint, and Assembly Shops. The role focuses on maintaining and improving product surface quality and mechanical joints, driving root‑cause analysis, and initiating corrective actions to meet Volkswagen Konzern Quality standards while enabling continuous improvement. This position is based in QA Vehicle Manufacturing Department - Quality Assurance (Kariega)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, conduct, and coordinate product and process audits and inspections across manufacturing shops.
- Identify, analyse, and communicate top defects detected during audits and sign‑off processes.
- Drive root cause investigations and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor series production measurements and highlight non‑conformances to prevent defect flow‑out.
- Ensure adherence to approved working procedures, control plans, and quality standards.
- Support pre‑series, SOP readiness, and product introduction through audits and improvement actions.
- Participate in the approval and introduction of new or changed components, materials, and processes.
- Prepare for and support VDA, TÜV, Group, and internal audits.
- Analyse and distribute quality data using auditing tools and reports to prioritise improvement actions.
- Compile, update, and maintain work instructions and quality documentation.
- Liaise with internal departments, suppliers, dealerships, and Group stakeholders on quality matters.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- National Diploma in an Engineering discipline
- (BSc / BTech in Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgy, or Mechatronics will be advantageous
Work Experience:
- Minimum ±5 years relevant automotive manufacturing experience
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, and vehicle release processes
- Experience in applying problem‑solving techniques (e.g. Fishbone, DOE, FMEA)
- Working knowledge of VDA 6.3 / TQS standards and VW Group regulations
Technical & Behavioral Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills at all organisational levels
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritise audits, trials, and improvement activities
- Sound understanding of joining technologies, torque applications, and product audit standards
- Knowledge of statistical techniques (Pareto charts, control charts, capability studies)
- Proficiency in MS Office, databases, and auditing systems
- Ability to work independently, under pressure, and in a dynamic environment
- Fluency in English (technical German advantageous)
