ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a driven and technically strong Planning / Process Engineer to support Production by developing, implementing, and optimising manufacturing processes. The role focuses on ensuring production efficiency, resolving technical issues, and driving continuous improvement to meet quality, cost, volume targets and safety targets. This position is based in the Press Shop - Production (Kariega)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical support to Production to develop and establish efficient manufacturing processes.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, efficiency, and cost performance.
- Coordinate and facilitate improvement workshops (e.g. value stream mapping, efficiency workshops).
- Establish and optimise production processes, including tooling, layouts, and equipment.
- Resolve production and process-related issues impacting quality or output.
- Ensure process stability and readiness for production changes and new model introductions.
- Manage change control relating to engineering changes (ECRs, new models, process updates).
- Support costing activities for facilities, tooling, and equipment.
- Conduct audits (quality, process, OHSE) and ensure compliance with standards and requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Production, Engineering, Quality, Logistics, and Purchasing.
- Develop reports, process documentation, and performance tracking tools.
- Drive problem-solving initiatives and implement sustainable solutions to root causes.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- National Diploma or Degree in Engineering
- Qualified Toolmaker
Work Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years’ technical / engineering experience in an automotive manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of production systems, processes, and layouts In-depth knowledge of production processes, layouts, production systems and shop facilities
- 3 years’ experience / knowledge of a Tool Room, including tool design, tool layout, heavy press tools manufacture, patternmaking, machining, works preparation and try-out section
Technical & Behavioral Competencies:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- Knowledge of production processes, tooling, and material specifications
- Project management and coordination skills
- Knowledge of quality and audit systems (ISO, VDA, COP, OHSE)
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Computer literacy (MS Office); CAD/Microstation advantageous
- Knowledge of VW systems and processes advantageous
