Applications are invited from suitably qualified & experienced candidates to fill the Pilot Hall Engineer (Vehicle Elec Commissioning Programing) position in the Pilot Hall – Production ( Kariega)

Brief Role Description

 As part of the Pilot Hall Vehicle Electronics team, the incumbent will be responsible to manage specialized vehicle electronics commissioning programs and configuration of universal testing system (UPS) using the Siemens SIDIS system to ensure all vehicles produced in Volkswagen Group Africa are commissioned (i.e. coded, tested and calibrated) according to group specifications and automotive regulations

Possible Tasks within this Role

  • Plan and implement new commissioning programs with consideration to assembly production process, line layout, technical commissioning requirements and project timing (launch milestone) for new vehicle projects, model years or face-lifts.
  • Sole responsibility for the execution of vehicle electrics/electronics commissioning relating to the coding, testing and calibration of control units and driver assist systems for all production vehicles by programming through the specialized Siemens SIDIS system to ensure all vehicles meet group technical and quality as well as regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze and resolve commissioning problems within production by diagnosing and debugging vehicle test protocols and program traces to proactively address concerns within the commissioning processes
  • Liaison with customers (internal / external / local and international) to define needs and potential solutions that will result in new configurations suited to new technical and customer specific needs.
  • Plan and execute commissioning program maintenance over life cycle of the product
  • Verify and ensure that vehicles are commissioned as per VW group commissioning test specification
  • Secure production across 3 shifts including weekends through standby/callout arrangements

Qualification requirements

Bachelor Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (excluding heavy current), mechatronics or Information Technology/Computer Science

Experience needed

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in object-oriented programming (e.g. Python, C#, C++, VB)

Essentials

  • Expert knowledge on programming principles and logic
  • Ability to apply problem-solving techniques to identify and resolve root cause problems.
  • Ability to work autonomously (self-starter), be self-motivated and target/goal orientated
  • Ability and willingness to contribute innovative solutions and ideas.
  • Ability to assert, coordinate and work collaboratively within and outside pilot hall team structure.
  • Able to work well under pressure and make sound decisions.
  • Proficient in MS Office Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook and MS Teams
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate coaching / training on various levels.

Added Advantage

  • Knowledgeable on the vehicle electric / electronic systems (brakes, airbag, lights etc.)
  • Basic understanding of German Language
