Warehouse & Hazmat Coordinator

Brief Role Description

Under the direction of the APG Operations Manager, the Warehouse & Hazmat Coordinator is responsible for leading warehouse operations and managing hazardous materials, including shipping, receiving, storage, and field coordination of materials, vehicles, fuels, and waste.

The role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient handling of materials across warehouse and field logistics activities, working closely with functional teams incl. Technical Coordination at APG to support site-wide warehouse operations and environmental compliance requirements.

Possible Tasks within this Role

Warehouse & Shipping Operations (30%)

  • Supervise and coordinate warehouse and shipping/receiving activities
  • Assign and monitor daily workload for warehouse personnel
  • Ensure compliance with shipping standards and documentation requirements
  • Support inbound and outbound logistics (domestic and international)
  • Manage vehicle logistics including inspections, packaging, and transport documentation
  • Act as a primary point of contact to support Technical Coordination with requested logistic support for summer testing groups by ensuring timely staging and delivery
  • Ensure proper handling and movement of materials and equipment

Hazardous Materials Logistics & Control (30%)

  • Manage the safe handling, labelling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with regulatory regulations
  • Oversee chemical, fuel, oil, coolant, and waste material inventory systems
  • Ensure proper labelling, storage, recycling, segregation, and disposal of hazardous waste streams
  • Arrange disposal logistics for tires, scrap metal, trash, and test vehicles
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of Li-Ion batteries and specialty materials
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records of hazardous material movement, usage, and disposal, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

Fuel Logistics Support (20%)

  • Schedule and oversee fuel and oil deliveries, including allocation of supplies, in alignment with testing department requests
  • Coordinate specialty fuel requirements with test groups
  • Maintain fuel usage and delivery documentation
  • Assist with towing or movement of test vehicles as needed
  • Support logistics coordination for test operations and materials
  • Coordinate equipment and system readiness for operational requirements

Environmental & Compliance Support (Field Coordination) (20%)

  • Support SPCC inspections and site compliance checks
  • Assist with environmental sampling activities (water, air, dust control support)
  • Support regulatory compliance activities related to hazardous materials handling
  • Assist with operational documentation required for environmental reporting
  • Collaborate with EHS to maintain a safe working environment and ensure employee training compliance.

 

Qualification Requirements

Required:

  • High School Diploma required
  • 4-6+ years of experience in warehouse operations, shipping/receiving, or hazmat logistics 
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in hazardous material handling and /or shipping and receiving hazardous material
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards, International Fire Code, DOT, IMDG, and IATA regulations
  • Ability to apply logical thinking and decision making based on procedures and guidelines
  • Must be self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented
  • Requires knowledge and experience using computers including proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • HAZWOPER (24 hr required within 1 year)
  • DOT/IATA Hazmat Certification (required within 1 year)
  • EPA Method 9 (preferred depending on site assignment)
  • Forklift certification / forklift operation experience 

Desired:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s preferred
  • Prior hazardous materials handling experience
  • Experience in industrial or environmental field work
  • Familiarity with DOT and IATA hazardous materials regulations
