ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking to appoint a competent, performance-focused Electrical Maintenance Technician to join its Paint Shop Maintenance team. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing electrical installations within the Paint Shop and ensuring that all facilities and equipment operate at optimal levels in accordance with VWSA standards. The position calls for a practical, hands-on electrical technician with proven fault-finding abilities, experience in automation systems, and the capacity to perform effectively under pressure in a high-volume. The position is based in the Paint Shop - Production (Kariega)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain all Paint Shop electrical installations and PLC systems to VWSA standards to ensure safe and reliable plant operation.
- Perform structured maintenance activities using PMs, checklists and job cards.
- Conduct routine inspections, identify deviations and report findings on preventative maintenance schedules.
- Execute planned and preventative maintenance during production and non-production hours, including weekends.
- Respond swiftly to breakdowns, perform fault-finding, restore equipment, and compile detailed breakdown reports.
- Recommend improvements to prevent repeat failures and enhance equipment reliability.
- Adjust PLC settings and system parameters such as conveyor speeds, fan speeds, pressures and tank levels, and verify performance.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- National Diploma / Diploma / Degree in Electrical Engineering (Light Current) or Mechatronics
- Trade Test Certificate: Electrician or Millwright
- Certified training in PLCs, Drives, Automation systems (advantageous)
Experience:
- Minimum 3 – 5 years’ maintenance experience in an industrial / automated manufacturing environment
- Strong experience in PLC-controlled systems, preferably Siemens Simatic S7
- Experience with SCADA systems (WinCC or similar)
- Sound knowledge of VSDs (Danfoss & SEW)
- Experience with Profibus, Industrial Ethernet diagnostics and automation fault finding
- Process control and instrumentation experience will be an advantage
Technical & Behavioral Competencies:
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Systematic and analytical approach to maintenance
- Effective verbal and written communication skills at all levels
- Computer literacy with focus on diagnostics, programming and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of the PEP process for the introduction of new models (or components) and or options
- Ability to work independently and lead cross-divisional teams.
- Ability to read, write and speak German (Advantageous)
