Volkswagen Group of America’s 6-Month Co-op Program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to gain immersive, hands-on experience in the automotive industry over an extended period. Designed for driven, curious, and highly motivated students, the program provides meaningful exposure to real projects that contribute directly to Volkswagen’s success.
Throughout the co-op term, participants develop both professional and technical skills through on-the-job training, mentorship, and collaboration with industry experts. This experience allows students to deepen their understanding of their field, strengthen their career readiness, and make a tangible impact within one of the world’s most innovative automotive companies.
Program Information:
- 6-month Co-op Program Start Date (non-negotiable): June 1, 2026
- Program Duration: June 1, 2026 – December 18, 2026

Role Summary
The Paint Shop Co-op will support operations within the Planning, Process, and Maintenance functions of the Paint Shop at Volkswagen Chattanooga. This role provides hands-on experience in an advanced manufacturing environment, offering exposure to paint application processes, preventive maintenance systems, and data-driven process optimization. The Co-op will collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve workflow efficiency, enhance quality, and strengthen production reliability.
Possible Tasks within this Role
- Assist process engineers in analyzing paint application techniques, quality control measures, and process performance.
- Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and uptime.
- Contribute to planning and workflow optimization efforts, including documentation and equipment installation tracking.
- Utilize tools such as Power BI, Python, and Copilot to analyze data and identify improvement opportunities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives incorporating Lean and Six Sigma principles.
Qualification requirements
- A rising college Junior, Senior or recent graduate
- Strong GPA
- Strong preference for Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related degrees.
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Interest in manufacturing, process improvement, and automation technologies.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment.
- Basic understanding of Power BI, Python, and Copilot
