Work environment

Dive into the Future of Vehicle Control! At VW Group Components, you will work as a doctoral candidate on a cutting-edge topic in steering system development: You will develop a method for cost and performance evaluation of a steering module within the lateral control system of an X-by-Wire vehicle. In a modern, interdisciplinary environment, you will actively shape the mobility of tomorrow. You can expect an innovative team, state-of-the-art technologies, and direct practical relevance to series production development. Take the opportunity to combine your scientific work with real-world challenges – and become part of a strong corporate network.

Possible Tasks within this Role

  • Conduct a comprehensive literature and patent review on the state of the art and current research in the field of vehicle lateral control and X-by-Wire systems
  • Model a complete system consisting of relevant components such as steer-by-wire steering, rear-axle steering, and brake control systems
  • Develop an evaluation method to analyze dependencies between technical characteristics of the components and to optimize their design
  • Integrate driver-related evaluation criteria, using the example of functional distribution between front and rear axle steering
  • Design and execute an experimental setup to validate the developed method under realistic conditions

The final doctoral topic is defined together with the professor. The prerequisite for the cooperation is the confirmation of supervision as well as a confirmed delimitation of topics by the professor of a university or research institution entitled to confer a doctorate.
