PhD Student Battery Development Adhesives (f/m/d)
Work environment
Do you want to help shape the mobility of the future? Are you particularly fascinated by the centerpiece of electrification – the battery system? Are innovation and continuous development what drive you? Then you are in exactly the right place in our Battery Cell & System business unit! We combine the Group’s expertise for the development and production of battery cells and battery systems. In our battery system development, we manage global development activities for existing and new HV battery systems. Our department focuses on innovative joining technologies that are essential for modern vehicle production. We research and develop solutions to optimize the material-bonded connection of metallic substrates using adhesives, thereby creating the foundation for safe and efficient manufacturing processes. As a team, we work with a strong focus on the future and foresight in a highly agile environment.
Possible Tasks within this Role
- Analyzing surface textures and their influence on the adhesive bonding of metallic substrates
- Conducting test series to vary adhesive gap thicknesses and surface roughness
- Examining interfaces using spectral analyses and microscopic methods
- Assessing strength and fracture patterns under various adhesive and substrate combinations
- Contributing to the development of strategies for reproducible and cost-efficient series production
The final doctoral topic is defined together with the professor. The prerequisite for the cooperation is the confirmation of supervision as well as a confirmed delimitation of topics by the professor of a university or research institution entitled to confer a doctorate.
Qualification requirements
- Successfully completed university degree (good to very good) qualifying for a doctorate in the field of materials science, chemistry, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
- Basic understanding of measurement technology, data analysis, and interpretation
- Knowledge of material testing and mechanical strength analysis
- Analytical and structured thinking
- Independent and goal-oriented working style
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- German and English language level B2
Keywords
Battery Development, Adhesive Bonding Specialist, Joining Processes
What we offer
- Attractive salary & 30 vacation days (+ 24.12. and 31.12. off)
- 35-hour week, flexible working hours, remote work
- Special conditions for the purchase and leasing of vehicles
- Free seminars on scientific work and interdisciplinary qualifications
- Participation in the doctoral network for scientific exchange with science representatives and other doctoral candidates within the Volkswagen Group
