Brief Role Description

At the Innovation & Engineering Center California (IECC), we represent the Volkswagen Group in applied research and development. HCP Hardware Development – (80%)

  • Working on the development of connectivity functions
  • Contribute to the development, launch and production of connectivity functions and ECUs, overseeing all steps of the process and coordination with product/design/contract manufacturers.
  • Contribute to specification and design of connectivity units for automotive systems.
  • Work with internal customers to understand and specify application requirements and deliverables, including safety and security
  • Work with component or chipset suppliers to select and support hardware as well as solutions.
  • Contribute and coordinate to establish Cyber Security and regulatory requirements while developing EE hardware / connectivity platform.

 

Operational Management - (20%)

  • Own the relationship with contract manufacturer, and lead strategic discussions and negotiations.
  • Monitor compliance with relevant regulations, statutes, Board Directives, process standards (including in respect of Golden Rules and Product Compliance), procedural/operating instructions and occupational safety regulations using appropriate management controls (dual-control principle).
  • Identify and mitigate project technology risks and execution risks

Role Responsibilities

System Development and Management – (60%)

  • Working on the development of connectivity functions
  • Contribute to the development, launch and production of connectivity functions and ECUs, overseeing all steps of the process and coordination with product/design/contract manufacturers.
  • Contribute to specification and design of connectivity units and IT backend for automotive systems.
  • Work with internal customers to understand and specify communication requirements and deliverables, including safety and security as well as regulatory requirements
  • Work with software, component or chipset suppliers to select and support hardware as well as solutions.
  • Contribute and coordinate to establish Cyber Security and regulatory requirements while developing EE hardware / connectivity platform.

 

Operational Management - (40%)

  • Ownership of the remote SIM provisioning solution in NAR markets
  • Own the relationship with network operator, contract manufacturer, platform provider and lead strategic discussions and technical negotiations.
  • Monitor compliance with relevant regulations, statutes, Board Directives, process standards (including in respect of Golden Rules and Product Compliance), procedural/operating instructions and occupational safety regulations using appropriate management controls (dual-control principle).
  • Identify and mitigate project technology risks and execution risks

Qualification requirements

Specialized Skills

Required

  • Knowledge of communication HW & SW architecture and hardware development processes.
  • Knowledge of direct communication technologies such as 3GPP-based V2X systems (Rel. 14 and Rel. 16).
  • Knowledge of designing backend architecture for secure certificate provisioning.
  • Knowledge of designing a system that can fulfill regulatory and inhouse security requirements.
  • Knowledge of 5G systems as well as SIM management for automotive.
  • Knowledge of designing connected systems that fulfill the regulatory requirements of multiple markets.
  • Knowledge of interpretation and implementation of communication or automotive technology standards (e.g. 3GPP, SAE, GBT, ETSI)
  • Implementation of PoCs and troubleshooting skills of pre-development HW as well as SW.
  • Knowledge in networking technologies (TCP/UDP, DNS, DHCP, tunnelling protocols etc.).
  • Knowledge of communication technology, such as packet rate, bandwidth and E2E latency calculations or estimations.
  • Experienced with introduction into mass production of communication equipment.
  • Experience in coordination of function or ECU development process.
  • Deep understanding of typical vehicle EE architectures and automotive development processes.
  • Deep understanding in defining and designing hardware for embedded connected systems including definition of SW/HW components and its interfaces.
  • Knowledge of connected communication hardware components and its peripherals.
  • Knowledge of connected vehicle infotainment and communication systems.
  • Knowledge of embedded system software/hardware architecture, real-time systems and virtualized systems.
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language, such as C++, Java or Python.

 

Desired

  • Experience in Infotainment and Driver Assistance Systems.
  • Rapid SW environment for prototyping and validation.
  • Knowledge of connected functions in combination with driver assistance system technologies.
  • Design of pleasant user-interface architecture, which can fulfill regulatory requirements.
  • Programming experience with the languages C, C++, Java, Python, and script languages.
  • Capability of assessing state-of-the-art communication technologies.
  • Experience as delegate defining standards in standards organizations.
  • Knowledge of autonomous system control.

Salary is determined by geographical location and adjusted accordingly. In Silicon Valley, the expected base salary range is between $160,000 - $180,000. Other benefits for this position include:
