Senior Hardware Engineer

The Senior Hardware Engineer will define, develop and deliver hardware in the embedded environment for electronic control modules for VW Group in order to create in-house development expertise for connected infotainment and ADAS/AD systems. The position will be a core member of the development team and will interface with multiple stakeholders of VW Group’s technical team members. This position investigates and develops new architectures for connected systems.

 

Role Responsibilities:

Hardware Design – (80%)

  • Verify the hardware design
  • Verification and development during different hardware designs and build phases
  • Working on the development of hardware functions
  • Contribute to the development and product launch of functions and ECUs, overseeing all steps of the process and coordination with product/design/contract manufacturers.
  • Contribute to the hardware specification and design of electronic control units for automotive systems.
  • Work with internal customers to understand and specify application requirements and deliverables.,
  • Work with component or chipset suppliers to select and support hardware as well as solutions.

 

Operational Management - (20%)

  • Be the interface between VWAG Engineering teams and Development partners for Hardware development topics.
  •  Lead/participate in VWAG Engineering and Development partner meetings, workshops and decision rounds related to hardware design topics. Bring escalation topics to VWAG management for timely attention and propose technical solutions.

Required

  • Excellent strategically thinking and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of communication HW & SW architecture and hardware development processes.
  • Knowledge of SOC power management techniques and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Bluetooth/WiFi integration
  • Knowledge of backend architectures.
  • Knowledge of designing a system that can fulfill regulatory and inhouse security requirements.
  • Knowledge of interpretation and implementation of communication or automotive technology standards (e.g. 3GPP, SAE, GBT, ETSI)
  • Knowledge of Hardware Security Module (HSM) and Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) methods and techniques
  • Deep understanding of typical vehicle EE architectures and automotive development processes.
  • Deep understanding in defining and designing hardware for embedded connected systems including definition of SW/HW components and its interfaces.
  • Knowledge of Linux OS
  • A driver license
  • Excellent proficiency in English language
  • Experience with Board Support Package (BSP) and Question & Test Interoperability (QTI) techniques and methods

 

Desired

  • Experience in Infotainment and Driver Assistance Systems.
  • Rapid SW environment for prototyping and validation.
  • Programming experience with the languages C, C++
  • Experience with Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
  • Knowledge of connected vehicle infotainment and communication systems.
  • Understanding of ICE vehicle power requirements
  • Knowledge of CI/CD toolchains
  • Basic proficiency in German language
 

Years of Required Experience

  • 7+years in Embedded hardware design with an Automotive OEM/Tier 1 or mobile device developer

 

Education Requirements:

  • B.Sc in Software Engineering
  • M.Sc (strongly preferred)

 

Work Flexibility:

  • Accommodation for working time zone differences between international locations as needed
  • Travel is estimated to be 10%.
  • Role requires flexibility in daily schedule, including early morning meetings with Europe, afternoons/evenings for the US West Coast or Asia
  • Travel is expected regularly to local development teams and partners <20miles from work location
