Applications are invited from suitably qualified & experienced candidates to fill the Automation Engineer position in the Final Assembly ProductionPlanning Department - Manufacturing Planning -Production (Kariega)
Brief Role Description
Investigate, analyze, formulate and implement new plant manufacturing systems and processes in order to facilitate new Models and Model Year Changes throughout the model range. Continuously carry out evaluations and assessments to improve existing manufacturing systems and production processes. Analyze, Implement and direct any assessments to improve existing manufacturing systems and production processes. To provide Production with the technical support to resolve production problems that prevents the achievement of quality targets and scheduled production volumes
Possible Tasks within this Role
- Formulate and compile detailed facility specifications to ensure the required facilities, machines, equipment and tools meet the levels of excellence.
- Ensure and direct the approval of funds for the purchasing of equipment by compiling, issuing and monitoring the appropriation process to Finance to meet deadlines.
- Co-ordinate, monitor and advise during design reviews when formulating the design and manufacture of new facilities, fixtures and tools or modifications thereof to ensure that all parties’ input are taken into consideration
- Control and direct Buy-off of new facilities by supervising try-outs, commissioning and measuring (dimensional) of these new facilities to ensure production processes is ergonomic and capable of producing the required quality and consistency to VWSA standard
- Develop internal solution, in line with Digitalisation and Automation objectives
- Formulate, supervise and control Project Timing Plans, using MS Project to ensure that activities required for achieving project scope and objectives are completed in time, and reports are completed and distributed to all relevant stakeholders
- Preparing specifications for the purchasing processes (enquiry’s, cost estimates, project justifications and technical evaluation of tenders)
- Participation in various group forums to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and learnings
- Managing contractor’s work and ensuring adherence to all relevant safety requirements or standards
Qualification requirements
Have a National Diploma / Degree in Mechatronics /Electrical/ Electronic Engineering
Experience needed
Have a minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in automation
Essentials
- Ability to compile detailed investment studies and project control plans
- In-depth knowledge of production processes and facilities
- Knowledge and understanding of Siemens automation products
- Knowledge and understanding of automation design principles e.g. safety, maintainability, visualisation and operation
- Proven analytical skills with an innovative approach to problem-solving
- Ability to communicate at all levels
- Assertiveness, decision making, facilitation and negotiation skills
- Computer Literacy (MS Office incl. Projects, CAD)
- Good Project management skills
- Be prepared to travel local and abroad so and when required
