Position Overview

The Manager, Technical Accounting and Reporting is responsible for management of the financial accounting and reporting functions within the VGCA Accounting Shared Services. The role must ensure the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial statements prepared in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), as well as the analysis of information to ensure appropriate business decision making and corporate steering. The incumbent leads the team by coaching, guiding and measuring the team members towards the achievement of established objectives.

The Manager, Technical Accounting and Reporting oversees and coordinates various audits, providing audit requirements and analysis for both external and internal audits (quarterly, year-end, group audits).

Additional responsibilities include ownership and execution of various projects coming from business initiatives and IT requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting:

  • Provide technical accounting oversight and guidance to the team for complex topics to ensure controlling and financial accounting functions comply with IFRS and the VW Accounting Handbook, and accounting processes in critical areas are appropriately and adequately supported and documented.
  • Review position papers in support of accounting treatment for complex contracts and arrangements as required.
  • Manage the rollout of new requirements from Group Accounting as they pertain to financial reporting for in-scope entities within the team, ensuring thorough analyses and understanding of all changes
  • Oversee and review the monthly, quarterly, and annual internal financial statements of the designated companies as well as disclosure notes preparation, ensuring submissions adhere to prescribed deadlines and follow appropriate IFRS accounting treatments.
  • Oversee the monthly close processes for in-scope entities including manual journal entry review/approval and oversee the development and preparation of monthly financial results review reporting, as well as presentations to Management with supporting variance analysis and explanations.
  • Support and review standalone financial statement preparation and final submission for relevant entities

Leadership:

  • Lead and develop a team of 6 direct reports through active coaching, timely discussions and measuring individuals against role metrics and specific performance objectives.
  • Foster continuous growth of team members through alignment of career paths and succession planning.
  • Maintain and propose performance metrics and KPIs to drive informed decisions regarding resources and areas of focus.
  • Cascade departmental projects and objectives to direct reports as appropriate, including delegation of deliverables and ensuring high quality work, thus leading to the overall successful achievement of such items
  • Provide escalation support to team members for ad-hoc topics

Audit:

  • Main point of contact for external auditors across all in-scope entities.
  • Oversee financial analysis and support to external auditors during annual audit and interim reviews. Provide analysis and support to internal audit as required.
  • Lead discussions and oversee the progression of the audit, coordination of deliverables by the team(s), actively following up on outstanding items and status, and steering towards successful completion.
  • Manage technical accounting topics that require escalation and actively support the resolution according to IFRS, and the appropriate and thorough documentation thereof

Documentation & Internal Controls:

  • Develop and maintain robust internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) across relevant functional areas, including overseeing the team updates of detailed narratives.
  • Oversee annual ICFR updates and testing
  • Driving process improvements and efficiencies for direct report roles

Collaboration: 

  • Coordinate monthly and year-end timetables with team and other relevant parties to ensure parent, audit and tax requirements are met completely, accurately and on time.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with VWAG Group Accounting including liaising on Group Accounting Guidelines, reporting requirements, and technical accounting and IFRS interpretations.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with external audit teams
  • Liaise with Tax and external consultants on tax matters.
  • Lead and/or assist with ad-hoc projects and preparation of financial presentations
  • Support the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting with ad-hoc initiatives as required

Qualifications

Formal Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree- Major in Accounting
  • Accounting Designation (CPA, CA) is a must with substantial experience with IFRS and audit.

 

Experience

  • 5+ years of Relevant Technical Experience
  • 3+ years of Leadership Experience

 

Specialiased Skills, Knowledge, or Certifications

  • Well-developed leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough knowledge of functional accounting methods and application of IFRS
  • Customer focused – identifies and demonstrates sensitivity to and understanding of customer needs without sacrificing process and system consistency and adherence to financial standards. Actively builds relationship of trust and seeks customer feedback to improve service with customers.
  • Highly advanced knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.
  • Strong business acumen – understanding of large, complex organizations and ability to interact with all levels of an organization.
  • German language an asset  

 

Work Flexibility:

  • This position is Hybrid
  • Availability for occasional travel, as per business requirements

 

Salary range is dependent on factors such as industry-based experience, skills, training, credentials, and other qualifications. The salary range for this role is $110,000-$125,000 actual pay may vary based on experience, education, and internal compensation practices.
