Brief Role Description
To take ownership and responsibility for the Automation considerations during project implementation as well as operational performance of the automation systems including failure analysis and optimisation analysis. To implement the necessary corrective and countermeasures to resolve production stoppages and faults. To analyse and document all severe breakdowns and stoppages to prevent reoccurrence and retain the knowledge.
Possible Tasks within this Role
- Correcting various Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic faults on machines in order to ensure production continuity.
- Assessing breakdowns and develop alternative solutions to prevent occurrences.
- Ensuring machine availability, accuracy and performance for continuous production within area of responsibility.
- Planning and developing modifications for conventional relay equipment to PLC equipment on various machines in order to reduce maintenance costs.
- Supporting production with new facility installations and commissioning to ensure proper functionality.
- Resolve robotic electronic communication faults by adjusting the robotic program to prevent reoccurring robot communication faults and ensure uninterrupted production process.
- Analyzing programmable logic controller programs for the purpose of modifying and find faults on the machines and equipment.
- Execute improvement projects in Press Shop.
- Perform on the job training with maintenance personnel.
- Compile and write work instructions for equipment.
- Be able to upgrade existing systems and equipment to latest technology levels to improve productivity.
Qualification requirements
National Diploma/National N. Diploma in Mechatronics /Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering or relevant engineering qualification
Experience needed
- Minimum 3 – 5 years’ relevant experience in the Press / Automotive maintenance environment
- .Have 3 – 5 years industry related experience (preferably at an automation integrater)
Essentials
- Ability to analyze and correct any deviation of machine performance from the manufactures specification.
- Have extensive experience in a PLC controlled systems environment including Profibus, Profinet, Profisafe and Interbus diagnostics, Industrial Ethernet diagnostic and SCADA programming and diagnostics.
- Ability to perform under pressure.
- Knowledge and ability to read electrical drawings – hardware and software.
- Robotic experience is essential.
- High proficiency with test equipment for fault finding.
- Be a driven, self-starter, have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Be methodical, organized and thorough.
- Be able to work in confined spaces & work at heights.
- Good communication skills
- Be prepared to work shifts, weekends and overtime.
- Computer skills (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Press shop experience would be an added advantage
