ABOUT THE ROLE
The Component Engineer ensures Volkswagen Group Africa products meet market requirements through the design, development, testing, and release of locally manufactured and adapted components. The role supports product quality, safety, reliability, cost optimisation, and customer satisfaction for local and export markets. This position is basd in the Product Developoment Division (Kariega)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, test, and release components in line with VW Group standards.
- Adapt Group designs to African market and environmental conditions.
- Apply preventative and corrective engineering tools (e.g. DFMEA).
- Ensure quality, safety, and reliability compliance before production release.
- Prepare and maintain accurate engineering and technical data.
- Manage engineering changes in line with production build levels.
- Support production, localisation, and cost optimisation initiatives.
- Participate in cross-divisional projects and technical forums.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of NDip BTech, BSc or BEng in Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Electrical Engineering
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience in automotive or similar engineering environment.
- Component/system development and testing experience.
- Exposure to engineering data systems and cross-functional teamwork.
Technical & Behavioral Competencies:
- Strong technical understanding and problem-solving skills.
- Project management and planning ability.
- Good communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- High degree of computer literacy (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
