2 x Component Engineer


Applications are invited from suitably qualified & experienced candidates to fill the 2 x Component Engineer positions in the PE Body/Electrical/Trim/Styling Department - Product Development (Kariega)  

Brief Role Description

To ensure VW Group Africa products are engineered to market requirements by designing, developing, testing and introducing locally manufactured components, by adapting and developing VW Group sourced designs to be compatible with VW Group Africa responsible markets‘ environmental conditions and by issuing technical data in line with the correct component engineering level to meet the following criteria:

  • VW Group Africa products are built problem free
  • Regional requirements in terms of local content and technical support are met
  • Innovative and unique product feature development
  • Safety and reliability in service
  • Technical support for discontinued models (and still required in Africa)
  • Technical development that adheres to the required Product Emergence Process (PEP) manual

Possible Tasks within this Role

  • The release of components for vehicles
  • The resolution of design related problems on all locally manufactured platforms
  • Co-ordination of testing and release of components and system, locally and at source
  • Maintaining and updating the BOM system
  • Problem analysis
  • Maintaining and updating the bill of materials system
  • Cost analysis of various components, systems and projects
  • Cost saving (PKO) initiation and investigations
  • Project management on new or changed systems and components

Qualification requirements

Minimum of NDip, BTech, BSc or BEng in the relevant Engineering field (Mechanical / Mechatronic / Electrical).

 

Experience needed

Minimum of 1 years’ experience in the automotive or similar engineering field which should cover:

    • Development of components and/or systems through standardised processes and fundamental engineering principles
    • Testing of components and/or systems in real and simulated environments
    • Working with engineering data systems
    • Working cross-divisionally (e.g. with Purchasing, Quality, Production, Logistics and Finance)

 

Essentials

  • High degree of computer literacy (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • High level of understanding of technical/engineering concepts and design communications
  • Problem resolution capability
  • Project management capability
  • Good interpersonal skills (team and negotiating skills)
  • Ability to lead and operate within a team
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work and complete tasks without supervision
  • Apply preventative and corrective tools and methods during the development process
