Brief Role Description

We are looking for a Software Engineer II – Backend who is a solid Java developer, ready to execute independently, keep pace with the team's delivery, and grow quickly. You take ownership of your work, speak up when you're blocked, and see every challenge as an opportunity to get better. You don't wait to be told what to do — you figure it out, ask the right questions, and get things done.

What you’ll do

  • Own your work end to end: clarify requirements, design the approach, build, test, deploy, and follow through in production
  • Build and ship backend features, fixes, and REST APIs for our charging platform
  • Work with frontend teammates on features that span the stack
  • Write thorough unit and integration tests, and help raise test coverage across the platform
  • Keep code quality high and meet the team’s quality gates as part of your definition of done
  • Review code thoughtfully and grow through the feedback you get
  • Raise blockers early and work across teams to keep things moving
  • Take part in sprint planning, standups, and retros

Possible Tasks within this Role

What you bring

  • 5 years of backend development experience
  • Java 17 or 21: strong, hands-on experience with modern features such as records, sealed classes, pattern matching, or virtual threads
  • Spring Boot 3+: production experience building services and REST APIs
  • Testing: JUnit 5, Mockito, and Spring Boot test slices (@WebMvcTest, @DataJpaTest, @DataMongoTest); you test each layer in isolation and cover edge cases, not just the happy path
  • Code quality: SonarQube or similar static analysis tools
  • Databases: Postgres and/or MongoDB
  • Next.js: working knowledge; comfortable reading, debugging, and making changes in a Next.js codebase
  • A strong sense of ownership and curiosity about new domains and tools

How You Work:

  • You execute independently — you break down a task, figure out the approach, and deliver it
  • You match or beat team velocity consistently; you don't let tickets sit
  • You are proactive: if something is unclear or you're stuck, you reach out — you don't wait
  • You take ownership of quality, including test coverage, without being asked
  • You're a fast learner who treats new technology, domains, or challenges as interesting problems, not obstacles

Qualification requirement

  • 5+ years of backend software development experience
  • Proficiency in Java; Spring Boot experience preferred
  • Experience with REST API development
  • Exposure to databases: Postgres and/or MongoDB
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with OCPP/OCPI or EV charging domain knowledge
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Experience with integration testing frameworks

Work Flexibility:

  • Standard working hours with occasional after-hours support as needed
  • Up to 5–10% domestic travel
