Brief Role Description
We’re seeking a proactive, business-minded Sr Counsel with 5-7 years of experience to join our Legal team in supporting the growth of Electrify America’s electric vehicle charging network in the United States and Canada. The Sr Counsel will serve as a trusted legal advisor to the business, providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal support across a broad range of commercial transactions and initiatives. The Sr Counsel will partner closely with a wide variety of internal departments and stakeholders to draft, review, and negotiate contracts, manage legal risk, and enable business growth while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and company policies. The ideal candidate combines strong technical legal expertise with sound business judgment, effective stakeholder management, and a solutions‑oriented mindset in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
This attorney will also support Electrify America by providing general legal business support across departments.
This is a hands-on role for a lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced environment, communicates clearly with business stakeholders, and brings strong judgment to balancing legal risk with business objectives.
Possible Tasks within this Role
Commercial Contracts (70%)
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts to support the business activities of the company.
- Assist in business departments in contract compliance, interpretation, and dispute resolution.
- Manage litigation, dispute resolution, and regulatory matters. Review and handle third-party complaints.
General Business Legal Support (30%)
- Provide practical legal advice on routine business matters, policies, and compliance issues.
Qualification requirements
Years of Relevant Experience:
- 5-7 years
Education (Required):
- JD from leading law school
Skills:
- 5-7 years of commercial contracting experience, gained in a law firm and/or in‑house legal department
- General proficiency with contract drafting/negotiation and issue-spotting (IP, indemnity, limitation of liability, confidentiality, data privacy/security, insurance).
- Analytical and conceptual thinking – using creative and strategic problem-solving skills to support the business’ contracting needs
- Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer, supplier, partner, licensing, SaaS, and professional services agreements
- Understanding of and experience with managing contractual risk in negotiations
- Ability to work with a variety of internal departments and stakeholders across the organization
- Experience supporting compliance with corporate governance and internal policies
- Managing or coordinating with outside counsel, as applicable
Specialized Skills (Required):
- Membership or eligibility for admission to the State Bar of Virginia (including Corporate Counsel certificate).
- Strong knowledge of commercial contract structures, negotiation strategies, and contract lifecycle management
- Ability to proactively mitigate risk while enabling business growth
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and work under tight timelines with close attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Competence in handling high‑volume contracting environments without sacrificing quality or judgment.
Specialized Skills (Desired):
- Experience creating and refining systems, processes and workflows to streamline contract management, optimize efficiency, and ensure consistency across the business.
Work Flexibility:
- Travel between 10-15% to support business needs
- Ability to work when needed by internal clients

Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, industry-based experience, skills, training, credentials, and other qualifications.
In the state of California, the salary range is $140,600 – $256,000.
In the state of Colorado, the salary range is $140,600 – $216,600.
In the state of Washington, the salary range is $140,600 – $224,500.
In New York City, the salary range is $182,900 – $256,000.
In Westchester County, the salary range is $154,700 – $256,000.
In the state of Rhode Island, the salary range is $140,600 – $216,600.
