Brief Role Description
Electrify America’s Product Management team is charged with leading the development of all products and services at Electrify America. This includes product strategy and planning (i.e., defining product requirements, building business cases), maintenance of product roadmap and backlog, and ongoing monitoring and refinement of existing offerings.
The Product Owner: Energy Controls & Site Design will own four critical areas for Electrify America:
- Site-level energy management
- Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) requirements, selection and integration
- Site standardization and integration electrical equipment between Electrify America’s DC fast chargers, switch gear, transformers, on-site storage systems, and more.
The Product Owner is responsible for strategy and planning for all equipment and services, pricing, and product P&L management. The Product Owner will work closely with the Engineering, Operations, and Charging & Energy Services teams to align optimal product portfolio with any operational constraints to select and optimize Electrify America’s portfolio.
Successful candidates will have strong knowledge of electrical systems and experience in product strategy, the EV industry, and a history of leading enterprise-level projects to successful delivery.
Possible Tasks within this Role
Working across the three product areas listed above, the successful candidate will balance the following responsibilities
- Product Strategy (30%)
- Define set of products and services offered by Electrify America
- Develop product roadmap with plan for rollout of new products and services over the next 12-24 months
- Track and analyze competitive landscape and provide relevant product insights to the broader Electrify America organization
- Product Planning (40%)
- Identify core product requirements through data/analytics and customer research
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Engineering, Operations, Charging & Energy Services) to define new products and features
- Recommend pricing for any products and services sold to customers
- Conduct make/buy analyses for any new offerings
- Support negotiations with key product suppliers/partners
- Define distribution/channel strategy
- Feedback Loop & Product life-cycle (20%)
- Gather lessons learned from existing deployments and incorporate into the next set of products and services
- Product Delivery (10%)
- Support Technical Program Manager through the implementation of new products and features
Qualification requirements
Years of Experience:
7 – 10 years of relevant experience
Education Required
• Bachelor's degree in Systems or Electrical Engineering
Skills: General skills needed to perform the job
• 7+ years of experience in product management, engineering, corporate/business strategy, or related fields
• Experience building and maintaining product roadmaps and backlogs
• Familiarity with electrical engineering, systems engineering and/or firmware/software development
• Experience using data to model complex systems
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to solve problems creatively
• Ability to work in a dynamic, start-up environment and flex as needs and priorities change
• Skilled in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Confluence and Jira
Required Skills:
• Strong understanding of commercial utility billing practices & how to optimize around them
• Experience working with utilities to build 1MW+ interconnections
Desired Skills:
• Experience in a product manager or product owner role
• Knowledge and experience in managing complex products from strategy and planning through delivery, monitoring, and maintenance
• Experience with EV charging
