Senior Python Backend Developer

The Innovation & Engineering Hub by Volkswagen Group Services, in Portugal, delivers groundbreaking solutions together with our stakeholders, by developing sustainable and market oriented products as well as innovative services. Volkswagen Group Service is positioned in the market with a broad range of automotive services, and supports the core business of Volkswagen, other brands and organizations.

Side by side with MAN Truck & Bus, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of commercial vehicles, we are hiring for a dedicated team in our Hub. 🚚

MAN Truck & Bus is focusing on four key areas:

• Alternative drive systems;

• Digitalization;

• Automated driving;

• Road Security;

Thus transforming itself from a commercial vehicle manufacturer to a provider of intelligent and sustainable transport solutions.

About the Team:

MAN SimplePay is a digital payments ecosystem for commercial vehicles that transforms the vehicle into a payment gateway/digital wallet and thereby enables it to pay for various services in and around the truck. The web application consolidates all transactions and enables fleet managers to analyze total cost of ownership in near real time. Secure connectivity and Telematics ensure secure vehicle identification and authorization of transactions.

MAN SimplePay tackles the most important needs of our customers:

• Optimized on-time delivery: Drivers save time due to efficiency gains (minimize human interaction);

• Reduced administrative efforts: Fleet managers manage their fleet more efficiently and have a real time view of all payment transactions in and around the truck.

MAN SimplePay enables the vehicle to pay on its own and is therefore also a major contributor towards eMobility and autonomous driving in the future

Your Responsibilities:

  • Working in the context of automotive IoT you will create, test, deploy and run (DevOps) customer-facing solutions and internal services running on modern cloud infrastructure;
  • You will develop and maintain functionality for our trucks using agile methodologies, being responsible for integral parts of our technical roadmap;
  • You will create products, prototypes and MVPs for near-vehicle services;
  • You  will design, develop and operate cloud native microservices using serverless functions, containers, RESTful APIs and event streaming;
  • You will be able to take end to end responsibility for the products you build in a DevOps organization (design it, build it, run it);
  • You advise your team and other teams on all questions around backend and tool development in an automotive IoT environment and work together on continuously improving the service, tooling and processes;
  • You take initiative to solve problems and overcome roadblocks, being the interface between electrical engineers, IT technology and the user. You are a result-oriented individual;
  • You are happy to learn new technologies and to solve problems in innovative and pragmatic ways.

Your Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or comparable job expertise;
  • At least 5 years of experience;
  • Relevant experience in the conception and implementation of cloud-native software solutions in an international context.
  • Solid experience with backend development in Python with focus on RESTful APIs and messaging (e.g. Apache Kafka, AWS SQS/SNS, MQTT).
  • Solid experience with deploying and operating serverless solutions on major cloud providers (e.g. AWS Lambda), developed and deployed with Infrastructure as Code. Relevant AWS certificates are a plus. Relevant knowledge of state-of-the-art databases (preferably PostgreSQL and/or AWS DynamoDB).
  • Solid experience with Clean Code and Clean Architecture principles as well as common software design patterns. Emphasis on quality, maintainability and usability.
  • Team-oriented mindset and strong collaboration skills.
  • Very good English skills, both written and spoken.
  • Having an Agile and DevOps mindset.

What can we offer?

  • Attractive Remuneration;
  • Flexible work hours and hybrid mode;
  • Attractive workspace;
  • Active Health Care;
  • Employee Benefits.
