Role and Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish, Build and Lead a 40-50-person team across product delivery, technical writing and training materials, driving initiatives to reduce operational costs for the business and most importantly customer and business success.
  • Running 1:1s listening to your Team Leaders and product owners, giving them your support and supporting them in their professional and personal development.
  • Managing Technical Teams: You will lead and manage a team of technical professionals, including Team leads, programmers, product owners, product designers, QAs, DevOps, to ensure that all technical aspects of the projects are developed and implemented effectively.
  • Enable your business unit to deliver a multi-team large scale strategic product
  • As the Technical Director, you will provide technical guidance and direction to the development team, helping to identify technical challenges and providing solutions to address them.
  • Delivering fair performance reviews in order to build trust and motivate your team leaders and product owners.
  • Hiring the best talent for your Business Unit, ensuring that the team is adequately resourced, trained, and motivated to perform to the best of their abilities
  • Ensure Guidelines, Best Practices and Architecture between cross teams. Motivate and cultivate a strong and proactive team culture to drive both large platform and process changes, including many cross functional initiatives.
  • Work with other Business units/Tech Directors to deliver strategic change and drive the business forwards
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills including presentations, bid defenses, workshop facilitation, business and report writing
  • Be a Delivery Advocate & Enabler, growing and maintaining strong and productive working relationships with our business partners across the Volkswagen Group. Travelling internationally to meet with them on a regular basis (at least monthly)
  • Establish six-monthly OKRs, help teams define them and follow up on them month by month.

 

Requirements:

  • BA Degree in Computer Sciences (or FP) and/or professional experience in Software.
  • Software engineering background working with different technologies
  • At least 8 years of technical experience, with a minimum of 4 years as Team Lead / Engineering Manager.
  • Good management skills and great team spirit.
  • Experience working on a diverse portfolio of products at all stages of development and live service, identifying risks and issues, mitigating and resolving them.
  • Experience leading a multi-team software product delivery
  • Ability to adjust, prioritize and re-align delivery in response to changing business needs.
  • Technical proficiency and the ability to understand, discuss, and challenge architectural concepts, tradeoffs, and new opportunities with technical team members.
  • Experience hiring, leading, developing and evaluating team members.
  • Fluency in English, Spanish and German at least B2 level
  • Nice to have: Experience working in German language
